Avant-Garde or Avant-Garb?
The seasons heat up with glitter roots & mermaid highlighter.
unless you live under a rock, chances are you know that we are coming into music festival season. Lollapalooza, Coachella, Bonnaroo…. We start seeing body paint, bright colors, glitter roots, mermaid and holographic hued highlighters on all of the makeup sites and fashion blogs. Basically what used to only be seen in rave culture, or the mythical Neverland, graces us all for the season, but when and where are these looks really okay?
How much is too much?
What is Avant-Garde & What is Avant-GARB?
I’m going to try some of these ultra hyped looks out. Let’s dive in!
Look one- avant-garde (Festival look)
Look 2-integrating mermaid culture with dry land aka the everyday look
So, What’s avant garb you ask?
In my opinion…
•glitter roots anywhere outside of a rave or a strip club in Hollywood Florida
•teal glitter lipstick
•yellow eyeliner
•caking every disco mermaid sculpting product on your face at once and seeing what sticks
I think at the end of the day the holographic trend, mermaid trend, unicorn trend, Coachella vibe is cool. This is a trend where, like most, what really matters is where and how you do it!! You can even work a 9 to 5 job and make it work, if you do a subtle eye with a halo crease and a pop of color in the corner, or a fun lip, or even a little pop of illuminator. Or you can go crazy, if that’s your thing & you’re out clubbing or raving, or performing, or letting loose… but bottom line, I don’t think blue glitter lips and crazy little mermaid eyes will get you too far if you wear them out on dry land.
Remember, glitter roots didn’t even work on Dakota fanning.. and she’s as cute as rainbow bright.. so if it doesn’t look cute on Dakota…
it’s probably not going to look cute on you.
